Questions from a returning player.
Hello,
I'm new here, and I hope this is the right section to post this. I have been away from guild wars since the 2nd expansion. 3-4 years maybe... I have not done the 3rd expansion. I have noticed a lot of changes, and I have forgotten some things. For the past few days I've researched wiki sites and forms, but I can't quite get the right answers. My account was hacked 2 years ago when I played Aion, and I didn't even know my stuff was gone. I lost most of my 10 lvl 20 characters elite armor/weapons, and tons of plat. This has put me in a handicapped position and I'm not sure how to proceed to start the recovery. Now for my questions... 1 What are the best farming locations nowadays? My n/mo still has some armor sets that weren't deleted and I used to use a 55hp farming build. My negative health item(s) are gone. I don't know what I had for weapons and secondary slot items. I need places I can farm with a N/mo, so I can first get the weapons. After I replace the weapons, I can move on to farming to replace stuff for my other characters. So suggestions there would be helpful. 2 When I played before, it was impossible to do some lvl 20+ instances solo with henchmen. I read reviews saying one can solo the game now. Is this really possible now? Can I do this with heroes and/or my characters (if I purchase the ability)? If not, is it still relatively easy to get groups? I'm mainly concerned about ascending a new character I made. I don't see as many people around. 3 I read, to unlock elite skills I capped on other characters, I need to get elite tomes. How difficult is that to get? If I purchase skills from the ncsoft store, does that include elite skills as well? I have been gone for so long, I just don't know where to start with my unexpected handicapped position. I generally dislike using forums, and don't normally ask for help like this. But if I can't figure out how to even correct my characters, I will probably never come back to guild wars. Restarting one character over is one thing, but doing it for every character I had, is just impossible. Thanks in advance; that is a lot of text to read. |

Hard luck, but welcome back..
1. I don't really know the best farming areas at the second expension only.. 2. Yes, since you can go out with 7 heroes, all expensions are now pretty much easy. Check this link to get ideas on new 7-H builds. 3. You can get Elite Tomes from locked chests and zaishen chests, or you can buy them they're cheap, check the latest price here. |

Generally, when someone comes back to the game, most people suggest this person starts a new character from scratch. It's generally a good way to get used to the game mechanics again and it will be also easier for you to get back whatever you lost by playing a new character, instead of trying to jump into "the deep" with whatever little you've managed to salvage from your old characters. If you own Nightfall, starting a new character and playing through that first is the best way to go, imo. I don't mean for you to start all of your characters from the beginning, but to just create a new one and use that character to get the plat needed for you to re-equip your old characters.
1) The 55hp necro/monk farming build isn't used much anymore as far as I know. Best check out the Campfire section of this forum for accurate farming information. Since Halloween is coming, there are going to be some additional quests that you can farm and then sell the ToT bags to other players. 2) You can solo pretty much everything nowadays, thanks to the 7 heroes in party/mercenary heroes update. Finding yourself an active friendly guild would also help a lot, just in case you have difficulties along the way. You can check the appropriate forum section for that here as well. 3) Elite tomes are more expensive than signet of capture if you purchase them from other players. How hard they are to get through farming depends entirely on your luck. I personally think you'd have an easier time to actually go and cap the skills you're going to use. To answer the other question - yes, skills purchased from the in-game store do include elite skills as well. However, if you just want to use them on your heroes, you don't need to purchase the skill unlock pack if you already have them on another character. Don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions. People here really love to answer them and help out new/returning players. Last edited by Megera; Oct 15, 2011 at 07:42 AM // 07:42.. |

The 55/nec can be used to farm the mission 'Minister Cho's estate' in HM for gold drops.
But yes, starting the new char would be a good start. After that I recommend that you go to Nightfall, if you have it, and get some heroes for easier questing etc. Good luck |

Minister Cho's estate is a very good choice to get some quick cash. Also Jaya Bluffs out of Seitung Harbor. The Tengu there drop feathers which go for 10K per stack of 250 fairly reliably. Farming section should give some suggestions on farming builds. I use an ele in there but a lot run Rits and other things. Not a hard farm.
Welcome back. Sympathies on your loss, but reading your post tells us that you are very competent player and soon you will be rich and well equipped again. |

If you've got all campagins and eotn I suggest you create a assassin and make sure you can do some Vaettir farm in time for halloween. ToT bags is an easy way to pretty fast get a base wealth to build from. Also doing the zaishen elite everyday builds up pretty quick as well. Just roll a pvp ranger and go create your trapper's build, you probably already have one, but whatever: http://www.gwpvx.com/Build:Team_-_Ba...aishen_Trapper
7 heroes really do make things alot easier. I've had problems with some parts of elite zones, but nothing else (I came back after a year or so in april I believe). It's pretty easy to get groups for the endgame content, just solo the rest with your trusty 7 heroes. Just go cap whichever elite skill you need. If you need an elite for one of your heroes consider unlocking it for 3k balthazar faction as your hero will be able to use unlocked skills. Really sorry that you got your account hacked must feel aweful. Just make the most use of halloween and you'll be back in notime |

Farm Nahpui mission, twice the feathers per run in a similar time, yet they cost nothing since no salvage required and besides that almost everything salvages into iron. Only ok thing about the bluffs is decent rune salvage. |

It's been possible to beat almost everything in the PvE game solo (except elite missions) since Prophecies. It's just gotten easier as time goes on, but at no point was it "impossible" to play with just henchies.

Wow.
Thanks for the info and support. I pretty much came to the conclusion that I needed to start a new character, which I actually kinda wanted too. I started remembering guild wars a few weeks ago and wanted to come back and experience it again. This was my first MMO, although I am not sure you can really call it that. It caused my MMO addiction. I just can't really decide what I want to play. The necromancer is my favorite and ranger is my second. I want to make a n/r, but I had better luck soloing as an n/mo. It was easier to keep my minions alive. I believe my equipment to run my old n/mo as a minion master is still there, just not the 55hp. I'm not so depressed about my account anymore at least. I think I can do this. =) |

You don't have to feel tied down to N/Mo. Blood of The Master is a great skill for keeping minions alive. And since you like playing minion master, I have AWESOME news for you: Pressing "Y" in game brings up the recently-added minion control panel -- you can target minions (or spirits) with the same ease as targeting party members now.

That is good news. ^^^
I remember I always needed the AoE heal. I've been watching trade in chat. I'm noticing things sell for more then they use too. Today I saw someone buying any unidentified weapons for 700g each. My jaw nearly fell off. Feathers seem worth a lot. Not sure where I used to get feathers, but I know they were easy to get. I really thought it would take me months to get back everything I lost. Seems it will be way easier to get multiple sets of 15k armor this time. Also, back then, I didn't have any mmo economy experience. I just wish I had been there for Halloween last year. I really, and I mean really wish I could have a set of cat ears, devil horns, and halo. I hope they make revised versions of them this year, like they did with the pumpkin heads, Christmas hats, etc. I'm surprised, I am enjoying GWs as much as I am. It has been so long since I played, I really have forgotten just about everything, so it feels almost new in some ways. |

You remember feather farming 15k armor is easy to get, that's right. Well, there's halloween this year too I must say that I agree, I also enjoy myself more than I thought I would when I came back primarly to do the hom. |
